On October 28, China-made rectangular tunnel boring machine with independent intellectual property right successfully finished FAT in Zhengzhou.

The official ceremony was held at CREG Zhengzhou workshop in the presence of representatives from the Project Client of Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA), the Contractor of Singapore Gammon Pte. Limited (GPL), and his partner of China Railway Tunnel Group (CRTG).

The machine will be used to drill a 7.6m by 5.6m tunnel (156km long) of Singapore Thomson Line T221 project. Through innovative techniques like combined arrangement of cutterheads, optimizing the friction-reduction in the course of advancing and enhancing the shield strength, CREG tailored the world-leading rectangular PJ machine. 

HENRY FOO, project director of LTA, expected the rectangular pipe jacking machine to be a great success in its first application in Singapore and set a standard for more machines of its kind in the future.

The machine will be transported by shipment to Singapore in November.

 Impressive Overseas Record of CREG                      

In December 2013, the successful application of the world’s largest Rectangular TBM to Zhengzhou Zhongzhou Avenue Undercrossing Tunnel Project drew industrial attention at home and abroad. The officials from LTA paid a study trip to CREG and showed intense interest in the safe and efficient construction, the effective use of space and the positive role of relieving the traffic pressure of rectangular machines. LTA then introduced this innovative tunneling method for Singapore Thomson Line Project. 

CREG remains active in expanding overseas market in recent years. The first Tunnel Boring Machine into global market CR-51 achieved a daily progress record of 21 m and a monthly progress record of 347.2 m. In November 2014, after its satisfactory service in Malaysia, the remanufactured CR-51 was delivered to India for New Delhi CC-27 Subway Project. Last month two slurry TBMs finished workshop assembly and were delivered to Singapore. 

In line with its move overseas, CREG set up a joint venture company based in Hong Kong and Germany in early 2013 and 2014 respectively to increase its presence abroad with cutting-edge technology and first-class service.
