CREG Gripper TBM Delivers to Jilin Yinsong Water Tunnel

Following successful performance during workshop testing on January 26th, 2015, CREG has announced the delivery of a new 8.03m diameter Hard Rock Gripper TBM to the Yinsong Water Tunnel Supply Project for central cities in Jilin Province in China. The official ceremony was held at CREG Zhengzhou workshop in the presence of representatives from the Client, the Contractor, the local authorities, and some well-known experts from tunneling field.

The Main Contractor for the above work is China Railway Tunnel Group (CRTG) of China. CRTG awarded CREG the TBM contract to design and manufacture the TBM which will be used to complete the 23km tunnel.


The TBM will bore through Karst limestone, tufa, conglomerate, limestone, sandstone, granite, albite porphyry, quartz diorite, diorite and for that propose, the Cutterhead was designed with a very robust yet versatile system, mounting heavy duty 19’’ disc cutters. The 3500 kW electric VFD main drive will allow the Cutterhead to cut through the hardest rock zones at the maximum speed of 8rpm whilst delivering an exceptional torque over 4,000 kNm to cope with fracture zones along of the alignment.

The TBM will be transported by road to Jilin jobsite.

Ambitions to expand international TBM Business


The achievements of CR-50 and 51 TBMs at Kuala Lumpur’s MRT project infuse the TBM supplier CREG with an ambition to enlarge the TBM business share in the overseas market. CREG, as one-stop tunnelling solution provider, supply full range of TBMs, have received considerable orders for TBM orders, including the orders for the Thomson Line in Singapore.


In 2013, CREG had taken over Aker Wirth TBM and shaft boring business, and acquired the right to permanently use the Wirth brand name. With this acquisition CREG has enhanced her capability of independently manufacturing hard rock TBM and shaft boring machines, while extensively broadening its access to a wider international market, plus CREG’s vast experience of soft and mix ground TBMs in China and other countries. Besides, as TBM supplier, the company is able to supply full after-sale support, including on-site field service by Chinese and international technicians and disc cutter and soft cutting tools.

At the beginning of 2013 and 2014, CREG has successively set up a joint venture company based in Hongkong, responsible for Asian and African regional markets, and a 100% subsidiary company based in Erkelenz, Germany, responsible for the European and South American regional markets.
